Foods Which Labradors Should Not Be Fed

Labradors will eat anything. We, Labrador owners, really know that they should not be fed table scraps; however we all lapse and feed them a morsel here and there. Here is a list of foods that they really should not be fed.

• Acorns
• Alcoholic Beverages of any kind
• Bones-Especially fish or poultry
• Canned tuna

• Chocolate:
– Why?: over stimulates the nervous and heart system
– Effects: tremors, irregular heartbeat, vomiting, agitation and restlessness, seizures
• Caffeinated beverages of any kind
• Fat trimmings
• Fruit pits or seeds
• Grapes or Raisins:
– Why?: damages kidneys
– Effects: vomiting, increased thirst, excess urination, and lethargy
• Liver
• Nuts
• Mushrooms
• Mustard seeds
• Onions or Garlic (in any form):
– Why?: damages the red blood cells causing anemia
– Effects: blood in urine, anemia, vomiting, overall weakness
• Potato, rhubarb, and tomato leaves and stems
• Raw eggs
• Raw fish
• Baking soda, salt, and baking powder
• Sugar free foods with chemical sweeteners:
– Why?: increases insulin causing low blood sugar
– Effects: seizures or lack of coordination, diarrhea, jaundice, and vomiting
• Raw yeast dough:
– Why?: fermentation of yeast in stomach causes excess gas and alcoholic poisoning
